Enjoy an all-out celebration of Kiwi cheese at C’est Cheese
C’est Cheese offers a cabinet packed full of NZ Cheese.
Tucked away in the quaint rural wine region of the Wairarapa is a step-through-the-wardrobe-door experience into the world of C’est Cheese, a destination cheese store that truly celebrates the craft of Kiwi cheese in all its glory.
Experienced cheesemongers Paul Broughton and Rachel Lamb proudly keep the produce of their own in-house creamery in excellent company; C’est Cheese is known amongst connoissieurs for stocking one of the largest and most carefully considered collections of New Zealand cheese in the country. The staff cut and wrap over 45,000 pieces of cheese per year, and ensure every piece falls into the hands of customers who will truly love the product they take home.
C’est Cheese customers come from far and wide to the in-house kitchen and ‘cheese bar’ to discover a new favourite dish in which a Kiwi artisan cheese takes centre stage, or to expand their horizons with one of the famous C’est Cheese flights. One of the best parts of a visit here is that you can watch the fascinating artisan cheesemaking process taking place right before you through a large window into the Remutaka Pass Creamery!
Remutaka Pass Creamery holds its own at C’est Cheese amongst 16 other celebrated cheesemakers. We recommend trying their Vintage Summit Blue, or sampling Meyer’s delicious Cumin Gouda, or the Mt Eliza Red Leicester for something different. C’est Cheese also showcases other nearby producers such as Kingsmeade from Masterston, and multiple award-winners Cartwheel Creamery of the Pohongina Valley. There are almost always a couple of cheeses at the counter ready to sample as well!
C’est Cheese has always fully embraced their “founding mission to promote and support the makers of NZ artisan cheese” (Paul Broughton, Head Cheesemaker), and are glad to see their customers embracing the all-important ‘support local’ ethos more now than ever.
Paul and Rachel are well-respected industry experts and have become the go-to for a growing list of many of the premium restaurants and lodges in the Wairarapa region. They also place Kiwi cheese with several local wineries to perfectly complement their tasting room experiences, and in turn support these very wineries by serving them at the C’est Cheese store and kitchen.
Though we recommend a visit to the store and cheese bar, C’est Cheese have made themselves accessible through their website and delivery service which is available throughout the lower North Island. Regardless of where you live, C’est Cheese serve inspiration and knowledge on their social media channels.
For all elements of the Kiwi cheese experience from manufacture through to dining, to taking home the perfect products for your at-home cheese platter, C’est Cheese is a destination worth crossing the perilous Remutakas for!
